14th Rural Camp, 2024
The Department of Social Work, Higher and Technical Institute, Mizoram (HATIM) organized the 14th Rural Camp for third-semester Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) students from September 18 to 25, 2024, in Serte, Lunglei District. Nineteen students participated in the camp under the guidance of Mr. RTC Lalremruata, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work.
The camp included a variety of activities, such as a free clinic, a one-day sports event, and awareness programs focused on Swachhatta Hi Seva (Cleanliness Services) and community cleaning initiatives. Additionally, there were sensitization programs and focus group discussions on breast cancer and cervical cancer, as well as education on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and household surveys were also conducted.
Students undertook community studies on assigned topics, employing a range of quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The activities were carried out in collaboration with Christian Hospital Serkawn, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, District Sports and Youth Services, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), and the Mizoram Health Systems Strengthening Project (MHSSP) in Lunglei District.
